CHONDRODITE with CLINOCHLORE

Tilly Foster Mine, Brewster, Putnam Co., New York, USA, North America

6.5 x 6.4 x 4.9 cm (Small Cabinet)

Chondrodite is a super rare Silicate mineral and this is a superb specimen with large crystals, the best we have had in years. The Chondrodite is in well formed distinct crystals, with slightly rounded crystal face edges, the largest crystal measuring 14 mm. They have a resinous lustre, and deep red colour, and the crystals vary from transparent to opaque. The Chondrodite crystals shelter between large booklets of dark silvery green micaceous Clinochlore, with hexagonal platey crystals to over 2cm in width. Sizeable well formed crystals of Chondrodite are exceedingly rare, and this location is one of the few to produce fine specimens, such as this.
