MARSHITE

Rubtsovskiy Mine, Altaiskiy Krai, West Siberia, Russia, Asia

0 x 0 x 0 cm (Micromount)

Marshite is a very rare Copper Iodide (CuI) with a distinctive (but not disagreeable) disinfectant like smell (close up). The crystals start out colourless or yellow, and turn pinkish to brownish/red with sunlight. This specimen is so fresh and properly stored that the Marshite remains colourless. A single sharply crystallised crystal (9mm) with a pearly lustre sits well in a depression in the matrix.
