MARSHITE

Rubtsovskiy Mine, Altaiskiy Krai, West Siberia, Russia, Asia

Status
Available

2.7 x 2.3 x 1.8 cm (Miniature)

Marshite is a very rare Copper Iodide (CuI) with a distinctive (but not disagreeable) disinfectant like smell (close up). The crystals start out colourless or yellow, and turn pinkish to brownish red with sunlight. This specimen is so fresh and properly stored that it remains colourless. The crystals from this locale are amongst the best seen in the world and this specimen is no exception with large adamantine crystals to 2.2cm across - this example is likely to be one of the largest known crystals. Therefore this is a rare opportunity to obtain such a sizeable and presentable example of a rare species.
