MARSHITE

Rubtsovskiy Mine, Altaiskiy Krai, West Siberia, Russia, Asia

Status
Sold

3.7 x 3 x 2.7 cm (Miniature)

Marshite is a very rare Copper Iodide (CuI) with a distinctive (but not disagreeable) disinfectant like smell (close up). The crystals start out colourless or yellow, and turn pinkish to brownish red with sunlight. This specimen is so fresh and properly stored that the crystals remain colourless and transparent. The crystals from this locale are amongst the best seen in the world and this specimen is no exception with bright well formed crystals of adamantine lustre to 7mm lining a cavity in its matrix. A rich and well balanced miniature.
